Integrated Accessibility Standards
The Integrated Accessibility Standards are now the law.
The law requires that all public and private sector organizations in Ontario identify, remove and prevent barriers by developing policies and implementing procedures in the following three areas:
- Information and communications
- Employment
- Transportation
It states that all employees, volunteers and others who deal with the public or other third parties, and all those who are involved in the development and approvals of customer service policies, practices and procedures must be trained on how to provide accessible goods and services.
It also states that organization consider accessibility when purchasing goods or services.
Integrated Accessibility Standards requirements are to be met, incrementally, between the years 2011 and 2021.
